VOIP Engineer (Mid), Fort Meade, MD

Responsibilities/Expectations: 

  • Installs, configures, and tests VoIP endpoints
  • Works customer SRM tickets and trouble tickets to update, remove, move, and troubleshoot VoIP endpoints
  • Maintains the local Cisco Emergency Responder (CER) system (includes working hardware/software issues and security vulnerabilities when needed)
  • Inventories and processes Return Material Authorizations (RMA) for VoIP assets to the vendor
  • With minimal direction, provides expert support, analysis and research into complex problems, and processes relating delivery of voice and video services
  • Assists and provides technical expertise on executive-level project teams providing technical direction, solution development, and alternatives. 
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. 
  • Operates and manages SIPR and NIPR VOIP systems
  • Builds and configures network infrastructure devices, hardware replacement, property accountability, wireless access point support, network service management (VOIP, access controls, firewalls, Bluecoat, TACACs, etc)
  • Designs and implements new network solutions and/or improving the efficiency of current voice and video services
  • Develops product recommendations on VoIP related network equipment solutions
  • Performs VoIP related site surveys and develops detailed design documents that incorporate existing firewalls, routing and switching to maximize network efficiency and security
  • Maximizes network performance through ongoing monitoring and troubleshooting
  • Arranges scheduled upgrades
  • Strong implementation experience in configuration baselines and DISA STIGs
  • Strong experience with vulnerability mitigation and patching
  • Reports VoIP service status to key stakeholders
  • Can work flexible hours to support deployment teams when necessary
  • Performs all other duties as assigned

  • Demonstrated ability to organize and facilitate planning and designs

  • This position may involve up to 25% travel to survey, design, and field VoIP solutions worldwide
  • Potential for telework 25%

Required Qualifications/Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • 3-5 years related experience
  • Cisco CCNA Voice, CCNP Voice are preferred certifications,
  • Network or other Certifications needed or specialty experience
  • Security+ CE (or appropriate DoDM 8570 Baseline Certification required)
  • IAT Level II certification is required before start
